2020 Craft Spirits Data Project - Distillers Survey

Dear Owners/Operators or Team Members of a Distilled Spirits Plant:

Since its launch in 2016, The Craft Spirits Data Project (CSDP) has earned rightful recognition as the leading authority for economic craft spirits industry data. Investors, banks, national trade and business journals, media, legislators at the state and national level, suppliers, universities, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), and of course distilleries are among the many consumers of the reported data. In short, our collective efforts have made the CSDP the single most important economic project for craft spirits producers throughout the United States.

Why?

The findings draw a clear and essential line between our industry and job development, agricultural growth, and increased tourism. Our data, including the number of distilleries, market volume, market share, and export highlights continue to be a critical tool in our steadfast push for modernizing regulatory and legislative schemes throughout the country. Your past input to update this structured analysis of the craft distilling industry was and continues to be vital, particularly as we now turn our attention to working with states on direct-to-consumer shipping efforts.  On Capitol Hill, we also continue to fight to allow the United States Postal Service to ship your products.

Together with our partners at Park Street, the American Craft Spirits Association (ACSA) is working to analyze the market from your perspective, that is, the DSP community. As always, all data collected will be treated confidentially, with special care to only release information in the aggregate. There will be no disclosure that would in any way be attributable to any one distillery. Responses will be kept confidential and released only as a part of the larger survey results.

Please answer the questions to the best of your ability. If you feel others in your DSP are better prepared to answer, please pass the survey along. We have shortened this year’s version; it now takes approximately 10 minutes to complete (if your key economic data from 2020 is at hand). Once again, ACSA is working with our trusted and valued partner, Park Street, who specializes in providing back office and software solutions for the alcohol beverage industry.

This year, we need your help more than ever to produce economic data to share with state legislatures and the TTB so we can best assist in continuing to advocate on your behalf. Many distilleries lost substantial income from the closure of tasting rooms due to the global pandemic while others that found sales soared through temporary state measures allowing for an expansion of sales channels, and we are eager to share these stories while capitalizing on some of the goodwill our industry has earned on the heels of our collective pandemic efforts.

Please complete your survey as soon as possible but no later than September 21 as the survey will close at that time. Thank you for your anticipated participation.

Cheers,

American Craft Spirits Association and Park Street
