Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on the future of Maranacook Area Schools. This survey is for families, staff, and community members who could not attend one of our in-person Strategic Planning Community Forums. Every resident of our four towns is welcome to respond, whether or not you have children in school.

What is a strategic plan?
A strategic plan sets out a district’s long-term vision and the goals, priorities, and actions needed to reach it. It guides decisions and how resources are used over a set period. RSU 38’s plan is being built together by a District Leadership Team and a Community Planning Team, with support from consultants at the New England School Development Council (NESDEC).

About this survey
The survey takes about 15–20 minutes and uses the same “Back to the Future” activity used at the forums. You will be asked three questions:

The future: Imagine it is five years from now. What does RSU 38 look, sound, and feel like for students and staff, academically, physically, and socially/emotionally?
Today: What does RSU 38 look like in those same areas today?
Getting there: What do we need to do to move from the district we have today to the district you described in the future, and what challenges will we need to overcome?
For each question, consider what you see and hear in our schools, what students and staff are engaged in, what programs and structures are in place, and what supports exist for students and staff. Share as much or as little as you like.

How your input will be used
Your responses are anonymous. NESDEC will review them along with input from the community forums and from staff and student sessions, and identify common themes. The District Leadership Team and Community Planning Team will use those themes to shape the strategic plan's goals and priorities, which will be presented to the School Board in March 2027.

Survey window
The survey opens Friday, October 16, at 5:00 p.m. and closes Tuesday, October 20, at 5:00 p.m.

Thank you for your participation in this important process.

Karen Smith, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
