Harriet Alexander Nature Play Preference Survey

Take 5 minutes to let us know what you'd like to see!

Roseville Parks and Recreation is working on designing a nature play area at Harriet Alexander Nature Center, and we want your help selecting what goes into it. The following survey explores several types of nature play features that could be included. Some require very little investment, and others are big ticket items. After you read through the options, indicate how interested you are in each type of play feature and then select the imagery that best reflects what you'd like to see at Harriet Alexander Nature Center. The survey will be open until August 10th, 2026.

2.Loose Parts Adventure Play & Fort Building
"Loose parts" are items from nature (branches, shells, pine cones, acorns, etc.) that can be picked up, moved around, and used by kids in an infinite number of ways to build and create whatever they imagine. This type of play is child-directed and can hold a kid's attention for far longer than a more prescriptive play feature. Loose parts are abundant and inexpensive, but require a bit of organization/clean-up and occasional replenishing to keep the play area from looking unkempt.

Natural features are play elements constructed of earth, logs, or rocks. They invite children to touch, climb, crawl, and balance. In many ways, they function like a playground, but don't look man-made. Natural features often cost less than standard play equipment, but experience more wear and may need to be replaced more frequently.
