2027 Great Teacher Nominations

INSTRUCTIONS: Please provide the following information to nominate a teacher for the Joliet Area Great Teacher Award. All information requested must be included in this form. Because selection is based on the Nomination Form, care should be given to its preparation. NOMINATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY 4:00 P.M. ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2026 FOR A NOMINEE TO BE CONSIDERED.
ELIGIBILITY: Nominees must be certified, highly effective full-time teachers (including itinerant and resource) in grades pre-kindergarten through twelve in the public and private schools of Joliet area. All nominees must have completed a minimum of three years teaching experience in the Joliet-area schools. A teacher may only receive The Great Teacher distinction once in a 5-year period.
NOMINATION CRITERIA: Nominees must be teachers who:
  • Instill in students desire to learn and achieve.
  • Understand the individual needs of students, encourage their talents, and foster their self-esteem.
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of subject matter and the ability to share it effectively with students.
  • Foster cooperative relationships with their colleagues and the community.
  • Keep current regarding teaching profession best instructional practices, trends and developments.
  • Demonstrate outstanding leadership.
  • Has completed a minimum of three years teaching experience in the Joliet-area schools.
  • Has not received Great Teacher distinction within the last 5 years.
Once your nomination has been received, each nominee will be sent a Great Teacher Award Nominee Criteria Essay Form in which they will describe their work as a teacher. They will submit the completed form to the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
