Arizona's Everyday Heroes — Fellow Interest Form

This year, the Arizona Center for Civic Leadership celebrates 15 years of the Flinn-Brown Fellowship — and we wanted to mark it in a way that feels true to what this Network is really about: the people in it, and the communities across Arizona they show up for every day.

We are partnering with Art State Arizona to create an original children's book featuring one Flinn-Brown Fellow from each of Arizona's 15 counties. Each story will follow a four-part arc — introducing the leader, presenting a real community challenge, showing how they took action, and reflecting on the impact they've made. Professional writers and illustrators will bring each story to life, but the heart of it belongs to you.

If you are interested in being considered, this form is your starting point. There are no wrong answers. We are looking for authentic voices and real stories — the kind that help a young reader understand what it means to care about a place and the people in it.

Interest Forms are due June 10, 2026.
SECTION 1: YOUR COMMITMENT

── BEFORE YOU BEGIN ── We want to make sure Fellows who express interest are ready and willing to participate if selected. Please read the following before continuing.

If selected, you are agreeing to:
  • Complete a brief intake interview with your assigned writer.
  • Review your story draft for factual accuracy.
  • Provide a 100-word bio.
  • Provide the images listed at the end of this form.
  • Attend or participate in the September 21 gallery reception.

A Note About How This Book Comes Together

One of the most meaningful parts of this project is that the writers, illustrators, and subjects featured in this book could come from within our Network. If you are a Fellow with a background in writing or illustration, we would love for you to consider contributing in that role in addition to — or instead of — being featured as a subject.

You can express interest in more than one role. If selected, we will work to make intentional pairings that honor both the story and the relationship.
