Overview The Society for Neuro-Oncology (SNO) and Oxford University Press are pleased to announce the 2nd year of the Editorial Fellowship Program. This opportunity is offered to trainees to provide an introduction to the SNO publishing enterprise and to the journal peer-review process, ethical considerations, editing, and publishing of medical research manuscripts.
Trainees and young investigators interested in learning about scientific publishing and peer review will participate in 4 virtual educational sessions over the course of 12 months. The sessions will review the scientific publishing process with a specific emphasis on the SNO family of journals and introduce the key elements of peer review. The format will be a combination of didactic material, case reviews and panel discussions.
Educational Goals Upon completion of this program, participants will have an improved understanding of the publishing process and be familiar with the peer review process. Specifically, the program will address:
Understanding the SNO family of journals
The various roles of editor, manager and publisher to gain a broad understanding of the scientific publishing process
An overview of editorial procedures and the peer review system and software
An introduction to the characteristics of well-conducted research with respect to communication style, design, statistical analysis, and data interpretation that are critical aspects of critiquing manuscripts being considered for publication
Roles and responsibilities of a peer reviewer and key elements of an effective review
Eligibility Participation in the course is through a competitive application process and is open to:
Currently enrolled residents or fellows in a clinical training program in any adult or pediatric neuro-oncology discipline- including but not limited to neurosurgery, medical oncology, neuro-oncology, radiation oncology, neuropathology, neuroradiology, or other
Postdoctoral fellows in the neuroscience or neuro-oncology field
Please note that applicants cannot serve on, or accept appointment to, the boards of editors of any journal during the length of the program. SNO membership is required and international colleagues are welcome.

Application Procedure The online application procedure requires the following items to be received in the SNO administrative office by the application deadline of May 31, 2026:
Applicant information and checklist
A 1 page summary CV
A letter of interest (1-page limit) detailing your (1) objectives in applying for the fellowship, (2) any prior experience with peer review, (3) your area of expertise using the journal classifications, and (4) commitment to complete all course activities
A letter of recommendation, no more than 2 pages in length, from a division chief or other senior faculty indicating that you will have sufficient time to participate.
Applications will be reviewed by the Steering Committee and applicants will be notified by June 30, 2026 regarding acceptance into the program.
