PARTICIPANT INFORMED CONSENT ONLINE SURVEY
You are invited to take part in an online survey that aims to explore the experiences and well-being of employees of settlement services in Ontario. The survey focuses on understanding various factors that affect job satisfaction, workplace stress, including feelings related to burnout, and overall mental health.
The survey will ask about your experience with workplace stress, the factors that may contribute to or alleviate stress, and the effectiveness of mental health supports available in your organization. Additionally, we are interested in your review of what changes could improve staff mental health.
This project is being led by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Toronto branch and the Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI).
Eligibility Criteria:
This survey is intended for individuals who did not participate in our earlier Toronto-based version (conducted from November 2024 to February 2025). Please complete the survey only once.
To participate, you must currently be employed by a settlement service organization in Ontario.
Before you begin, please take note of the following important information:

To participate, you must currently be employed by a settlement service organization in Ontario.
Before you begin, please take note of the following important information:
- Your participation in this survey is voluntary, and your responses will be anonymous
- You can withdraw from the survey at any time by simply stopping it. However, once you have submitted the survey, you will not be able to withdraw your responses because they are anonymous, and we will not be able to identify which ones are yours
- The survey will take 8-10 minutes to complete
- The survey can be completed on or before November 20, 2025. You can withdraw from the survey at any point before submitting your responses.
- We will ask you questions about your demographics, job role, work environment, job satisfaction, levels of stress, experiences of burnout, and coping mechanisms. You can skip any questions you don’t want to answer
- Your survey responses will be combined with others, so no individual answer will be identified
Participating in this survey may involve emotional or psychological discomfort when reflecting on topics related to workplace stress, burnout, or mental health. You may skip any questions you find distressing or withdraw from the study by not submitting the survey. Your input will help identify factors that contribute to workplace stress and examine strategies and interventions to enhance staff mental health.
Data from the survey will be collected through SurveyMonkey, an online platform for surveys.
Information in connection with your response to the survey will be downloaded from SurveyMonkey and stored on a secure CMHA Toronto SharePoint site hosted on MS Azure. Data in the SharePoint site hosted on MS Azure is encrypted, and the MS Azure virtual server is hosted in Canada. Members of the research team and the IT managers at CMHA Toronto who are responsible for the security of our computer systems will have access to the data. Data will be deleted after 7 years.
The results of the survey will be published on the OCASI and CMHA Toronto Branch websites.
