The LEDES Oversight Committee is interested in gathering information on vendor systems and/or client implementations that do not accept LEDES invoice files in accordance with the LEDES format file specification documentation.  Of particular interest are features within the format that are not accepted and, as a result, the vendor has implemented work arounds that cause additional work for law firms and law departments.

Our goal is to communicate with vendors to address these issues in order to better streamline processes associated with LEDES ebilling across the legal industry.

We understand certain formats, particularly the earlier formats, do not support certain functionality and, as such, this is not an attempt to update these formats.  These include:
  • LEDES 98B – Does not support taxes, split fees and AFAs; is not globally compliant
  • LEDES 2000 – Does not support multiple taxes, credit notes, withholding tax; is not globally compliant; old architecture (XML with DTD)
  • LEDES 98BI – Does not support multiple taxes, credit notes, withholding, split fees, AFAs; may not meet global compliance requirements in some countries
  • LEDES XML Ebilling 2.0 – Provides less comprehensive tax support than XML 2.1,  does not support tiered taxes
  • LEDES XML Ebilling 2.1 – Does not support tiered taxes
