Thank you for your interest in the workshop "Prioritizing health and oil spill preparedness" in Houma, LA on December 4th and 5th, 2018. This will be the first in a series of regional workshops in collaboration with the National Academies Gulf Research Program and the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative. We’ll be gathering with communities to listen and learn from each other about physical, mental, social, economic, cultural, and spiritual impacts from oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico. Emergency responders will explain the existing framework for preparing and responding to disasters like spills, researchers will share their findings about public health impacts, and community representatives with share their experiences. Be ready to participate in small break out discussion groups to talk about improving preparedness and response regarding human health in your communities.

As a participant, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the future well-being of Gulf coast communities by:

*Suggesting protocols to include in response and regulation,

*Identifying pilot project ideas,

*Identifying research and outreach priorities, and

*Identifying resources to address local and regional public health and disaster issues.
