Dear serving personnel, families and friends

Welcome to the Future Defence Housing Questionnaire.

We invite all serving personnel and their families to take part in this vital questionnaire to help shape the future of military housing. This is more than just another questionnaire; it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to influence real change for you, your family, and generations of Service personnel to come.

An independent Defence Housing Strategy Review team has been established to explore the full range of accommodation options across the Armed Forces. It has already begun reviewing your feedback and ideas, and the initial themes emerging are clear. You want existing Service Family Accommodation (SFA) to be upgraded, you want modern and better-designed new builds, and you want support to make home ownership a more realistic option for Service families.

This questionnaire is a critical next step. It is longer than usual because it covers these three key areas in detail, but every question you answer brings us closer to solutions that reflect your needs, preferences, and lived experiences.

If you are posted overseas, your views still matter. Work is being undertaken to understand the particular challenges and opportunities around overseas housing – your evidence and experiences on UK housing are crucial at this stage.

The Naval, Army and RAF Families Federations are fully involved in this work, and I’m pleased to be able to make your voice heard as their representative on the independent review. Your input through this questionnaire will directly inform recommendations to Ministers and MOD leadership.

At the end of the questionnaire, you’ll have the option to sign up to take part in future focus groups and follow on surveys. This is your chance to stay involved and ensure your voice continues to shape the future of Defence housing.
