Community Perspectives: Fowler’s Beach and Jerry Point Road Resilience Survey

Fowler’s Beach is an important part of our community, providing valuable coastal habitat and a place for everyone to enjoy the beach. Its dunes help protect Jerry Point Road, nearby homes, and emergency service access. After years of increasing storm damage and volunteer efforts to try to restore the dunes, a technical assessment has identified several possible new approaches for restoring and protecting the beach and dune system. Before moving forward with an approach, we want to hear from the community.

Your feedback on these restoration strategies will help us better understand community priorities, helping shape a plan that reflects Long Island’s values while protecting the long-term use of Fowler’s Beach and Jerry Point Road.

Restoration Options
A technical assessment conducted by Tighe & Bond in collaboration with the Long Island Civic Association (LICA) identified potential strategies for improving the resilience of Fowler’s Beach and Jerry Point Road. The strategies vary in benefits, costs, maintenance needs, and permitting requirements. This project is adaptive and strategies may evolve as priorities and additional information change. The approaches described below represent the current assessment and may build upon one another over time. Funding Priorities
The Town has already approved its required 5% local funding match for this project at this year’s Town Meeting. As the project progresses, additional funding may be needed depending on the final design and available grant funding.

I would support committing additional local tax dollars if needed to complete the project.
