Make Space Application Form

If you would rather have this form as a word document, please email info@vasw.org.uk.

Make Space is an initiative by Visual Arts South West that unlocks spaces within arts organisations for artists to set up, test and reflect on their work.

Through Make Space, partner organisations have each identified spaces they can offer for focused periods of time — from a single day to up to a week. Each partner provides clear information about the nature of the space, what is possible within it, and what artists need to consider and commit to (see individual Partner Packs for full details).

Make Space is designed to support artists whilst recognising the practical limitations organisations face in facilitating access. The initiative is run entirely in-kind by VASW and its partners. In turn, we ask artists to take responsibility for how they use the opportunity — managing their time, installing and deinstalling work, and working within the agreed parameters of each space.

Please note: visual arts practice crosses many disciplines - performance, installation, painting, sound, sculpture - often with relationships to other creative fields (theatre, music, film etc). This opportunity is for artists that primarily categorise their work as contemporary visual arts. If your work is defined more distinctively within other forms of creative practice (illustration, theatre, circus or craft for example), then this is not the right opportunity.

Make Space is initiated by VASW in collaboration with Plymouth Culture, Karst, RIO, the Theatre Royal Plymouth and Spike Island. The research and development phase was co-funded by Plymouth Culture and Arts Council England’s National Portfolio Organisations in the city.
