TO:                 Fairfield Residents, Businesses, and Others with an Interest in Our Town's Trees

FROM:           Fairfield Forestry Committee

SUBJECT:     Community Forest Questionnaire

The Fairfield Forestry Committee is seeking your input to help us update the Town of Fairfield Community Forest Management Plan prepared by the Committee and Tree Warden and endorsed by the Board of Selectmen.  The Plan is a guidance document for preserving, enhancing, and maintaining the Town’s trees.

Trees are essential elements of Fairfield’s character and quality of life.  Fairfield has long recognized its responsibility as a steward of Town-owned trees, collectively called the “Community Forest.”  The Community Forest consists of the trees in the right-of-ways along Town roads, in Town parks and open spaces, on the grounds of public buildings, and on other Town properties.

We have prepared this short questionnaire to help gather input from the Fairfield community, including ideas and suggestions concerning priority projects for managing Town trees and any concerns about tree-related issues or problems that you think should be addressed.

Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts and suggestions.  The questionnaire takes approximately five minutes to complete.  Your response is greatly appreciated.  We will publish the results of the questionnaire and hold a public meeting to discuss the results, hear your comments, and talk about the Community Forest Management Plan.

The Committee normally meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. in John J. Sullivan Independence Hall.  Everyone with an interest in our Town’s trees and natural environment is invited to attend and express their comments or suggestions.  Hopefully, our in-person meetings, halted temporarily to help stop the spread of COVID-19, will soon resume.  Our agendas are posted on the Town website, and you can contact the Committee by email at forestry@fairfieldct.org

And if you click on the link below to the Town website, you will find more information about the Forestry Committee and our programs, including our tree-planting and commemorative tree programs.  You also will find the current Community Forest Management Plan with its description of Fairfield’s Community Forest and the Town’s goals for preserving, enhancing, and maintaining the Town’s trees for the benefit of future generations.
