Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi). Your answers help us to map the real-world economics of today’s indie author.
For the purpose of this survey, an independent author is someone who self-publishes through author-publishing platforms, controlling their rights, and earning income directly from books and related intellectual property.
To qualify to respond to the survey, you must:
Self-publish in English.
AND
Spend 50% or more of your working time in writing and publishing activities AND/OR earn 50% or more of your income from writing and publishing activities.
The results feed:
- ALLi advocacy & industry influence – Concrete data lets us negotiate fairer terms with retailers, platforms, and policy-makers, and fights misinformation about self-publishing.
- Actionable insights for you – The published report will reveal the strategies, formats, and business models that are paying off for indie authors in 2025.
Confidentiality is guaranteed. The survey is anonymous; responses are aggregated and never linked to individuals.
