This is an introductory experience into the thoroughbred horse industry. Participants will learn about career pathways across the industry with a focus on horse-breeding, racing and equine veterinary nursing. Students will acquire skills through practical training at Scone TAFE and witness industry activities of interest and work experience.

This is a program that supports participants in gaining casual employment at Racing Stables or Stud Farms, in job roles such as:
Stable Hand, Stud Hand, Farming and Garden crews.

Education pathway opportunities include: Traineeships in Horse Breeding or Racing, Veterinary Nursing (equine stream), Agriculture and Horticulture.

In this program you will learn:
  • Horse behavior and identification
  • Safe horse handling techniques
  • Health checks and observations
  • Basic first aid treatments
  • Grooming and presentation of horses
  • Cleaning stables and housing
  • Providing feed and water
  • Hazards associated with working with horses
  • Biosecurity requirements
  • Participate in workplace health & safety procedures
  • Assessment completions throughout the course
Post program opportunities may lead to direct employment and Traineeships in the Thoroughbred Industry.

1 Week (Mon-Fri) - 4hr Online Sessions
2 Weeks (Mon-Fri) - Practical on Campus with Work Experiences
