Demographics

This survey will assist Council and the Economic Strategic Review Committee of business leaders and network representatives to understand the challenges of doing business in the Douglas Shire and priorities for Council’s Economic Development Strategy.

In 2017 Council adopted the Economic Development Strategy 2017 – 2021 to capitalise on our lifestyle, tropical location, unique environment and culture by creating innovative business development, investment, sustainable economic growth and prosperity.  Recent developments at the Mossman Mill and Kubirri Aged Care Facility, and the proposed Crystalbrook Marina development in Port Douglas, indicate a need to review our business climate and strategy for economic growth.

The challenge of creating and sustaining a vibrant economy while maintaining our World Heritage environment and clean, green brand can only be achieved through the collaborative efforts of individuals and organisations in both the private and public sectors. Council plays a strong role in economic development as advocate, facilitator and information provider between governments and community; and as owner and/or provider of services and infrastructure, facilities, reserves, resources and natural areas; and funder of services, events and organisations through donations, subsidies and in-kind support.
