This award is presented annually to an Executive Director who has demonstrated exceptional leadership in impactful program development and implementation, stakeholder engagement, and resource mobilization to effectively address community needs and advance the agency’s mission and strategic plan. Named in honor of the late Dr. E. Marie Watson, this award commemorates her 45-year legacy of transformational leadership in Community Action. Dr. Watson was a steadfast advocate for vulnerable families and a powerful catalyst for forging cross-sector partnerships that addressed urgent community needs. Her life’s work continues to inspire this recognition of leaders who embody the same vision, commitment, and courage. Nominations may be submitted by staff or agency board members. The nominee must:

  • Have served as Executive Director for at least two years.
  • Exemplify the Promise of Community Action

Basis of Award
Recipients are selected based on the following:
  1. Visionary Leadership: Exemplary ability to guide the agency in achieving its goals and advancing its mission.
  2. Operational Excellence: Significant contributions to improve agency operations, programs, or financial stability.
  3. Community Engagement: Demonstrated success in fostering partnerships, building community relationships, and advocating for low-income individuals and families.
  4. Innovation and Impact: Implementation of innovative solutions or strategies that have led to measurable improvements in the community and/or agency outcomes.
