Welcome to the East Coast Tasmania Tourism Community Conversation about tourism. This survey is checking in on what we heard from conversations with more than 300 people through surveys, meetings and conversations over the year with the East Coast community. Now we get to share with you what we heard and ask if it resonates with you.

We recognise it might not be perfect for everyone, but we will work to get the outcome as close as we can to something that represents the community as a whole to help guide future decisions. Please share this survey as far and wide as you can so we can hear as many voices as possible.

If you fully complete the survey and share your details, you will go in to win a 25-minute Scenic Flight over beautiful Wineglass Bay for 2 people, thanks to Freycinet Air Adventures.

This project is about building a future where tourism strengthens our region, not just by supporting businesses, but also by protecting what makes the East Coast special and creating real-life benefits for residents and visitors. For more information, see our Positive Impact Plan website.

Please tell us whether you agree or disagree with the following principles for managing tourism on the East Coast:

Question Title

* 5. Tourism should be low in scale and pace. We welcome small batches of visitors who are invested in the health and well-being of our place and people. We welcome visitors in peak seasons and if months are quieter, we embrace the time for our own regeneration.

Question Title

* 6. Tourism should be open for business that creates value. We work to encourage and support businesses that create value for locals and visitors through providing meaningful, enriching and enjoyable experiences.

Question Title

* 7. Tourism should bring benefit to the community. Tourism should strengthen our local economy and improve daily life. Development engages with locals, and is designed to benefit our communities first, through better infrastructure, fair work, and respect for our way of life.

Question Title

* 8. Tourism should be supported by infrastructure that is beautiful and sympathetic to the environment. We need well-designed and fit for purpose infrastructure that is unmistakably of the East Coast. New developments are connected to and celebrate the heritage and natural bounty of the coast.

Question Title

* 9. Tourism should ensure the values of our ecosystems, geology and place are uncompromised or improved. Tourism and visitor experiences are designed to minimise harm, support conservation, and restore ecosystems. We actively manage areas under pressure from tourism.

Question Title

* 10. Tourism should ensure our stories are revered and celebrated. Tourism must honour the deep history of this place. It should respectfully elevate Tasmanian Aboriginal voices, respect sacred sites, and protect the living traditions of our communities, from fishing to timber, mining and farming.

Question Title

* 11. Tourism should actively respond to the needs of the community and place. We continue to grow and evolve these principles through active listening and governance.

Question Title

* 12. If you think we have missed the mark with any of the above, please explain what is missing or needs improving and why:

Question Title

* 13. Do you have anything else you would like to add about the values, principles or concepts that you think we should consider?

Question Title

* 14. Project suggestions: To kickstart this plan into action, we're looking for projects that help tourism create a positive impact for the East Coast and East Coasters. Do you have a project in mind that will do this and could do with some funding to get up and running? Please feel free to share it with us here, or send us an email at positiveimpact@eastcoasttasmania.com.au

And finally, just a couple of questions about you and your preferences.

Question Title

* 15. If you are happy to do so, can you please share your age?

Question Title

* 16. Can you please tell us where you live?

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. Supporting our communities is critically important for the East Coast and we value what you have to say. If you have any further feedback, please email us at: positiveimpact@eastcoasttasmania.com.au.
