Multnomah County Library is building a new, destination library in East County as part of the ballot measure which voters passed in November 2020. This East County Library will be an entirely new building similar in size to the Central Library in downtown Portland. By building an almost 95,000-square-foot new library on a new site, the library can dream big with the community and provide exciting services in a diverse location. As part of the building design process, the building project team wants your feedback to understand how this space can best serve you.

The building project team collects community input to help design the East County Library. The building project team includes Library employees, County employees, consultants, contractors and subcontractors, including three core firms hired for this project: Holst Architecture, Adjaye Associates and MultiCultural Collaborative. This survey is only being used to inform decisions about the new East County Library building. The survey is 18 questions and will take about 10 minutes to complete. You can use the “Prev” button to go back to previous pages to review or edit your responses.

We will ask you questions about yourself, your community, spaces you prefer and why. We also would like you to share what you think is important about community gathering spaces, what a library means to you, and what technology you would like to see in these new spaces.

We are asking your consent to use this information to inform how the new East County Library will be designed. Only the building project team will see your individual responses. Your information will be anonymous, and there will be demographic and geographic data questions that are optional to help us better understand your needs and interests as a community member. Results from the survey responses will inform the East County Library building design but not services.

Design and community engagement updates will be shared on the Multnomah County Library project website and through the project newsletter.
