Dance Studio Application INFO and GUIDELINES

It is recommended you review all application questions before beginning, and that you draft your responses on a separate document then copy/paste them into this application. You will need to complete this application in one session.

To complete this application, you will need to upload:

- A copy of your current government-issued ID (individual) or recent IRS tax filing (organization or business entity)
- A project budget
- A resume (individual) or producing history (organization)

We strongly recommend submitting your application earlier than the stated deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted or reviewed.

NOTE: You have the option to answer questions 8-11 in writing OR by submitting a short video (8 minute max). If you chose to submit a video, please enter "See video" in the text boxes for questions 8-11. Question 12 allows you to share the link for your video.

* 14. Define the ideal schedule for your rehearsals in the Dance Studio, up to approximately 80 hours of use. The 80 hours of rehearsal also includes your proposed public events (but not the panel of awardees organized by DCASE). Be as specific as possible, and include your flexibility for alternative dates and times.
  • Hours of operation for the Chicago Cultural Center are currently 10am-5pm, Sunday through Saturday, and are subject to change.
  • Requests outside building hours will be considered; access to Dance Studio outside of building hours is limited.
  • Rehearsals can be scheduled between November 2024 and June 2025.
  • Examples of possible requests: 2 weeks in February and 2 weeks in April, afternoons or early evenings; 4 hours of rehearsal every week over 5 months, with best days being Saturday, Monday, or Thursday; need dates in November, April and May, and can be very flexible for days/times, but prefer mornings on weekdays; etc.

* 16. What engagement activities do you propose as part of your project?

Artists/organizations propose 2 engagements. The purpose of any engagement is to fuel the development of the project, not to present any sort of finished product. Your proposed activities could be an open studio, artist talk, workshop, hybrid activity, work-in-progress, story circle or some other form of engagement. Consider how your proposed engagements help you advance your work, expand audience, deepen your research, or otherwise support the new work in development.

DCASE determines the dates and times of engagements in cooperation with awardees.

* 17. Project Budget: Attach an itemized and detailed budget of project costs for your proposed residency period only.
  • Include fees paid to artists and personnel, supplies and materials, and other costs related to the Chicago-based research and creative development of your project.
  • Funding is not to be used towards rental costs for other facilities, large capital purchases or any direct costs associated with producing a premiere, an external presentation of the work in development, or other production.
  • Your budget can be organized at your discretion but should outline the full range of itemized expenses.
  • Budget should be balanced, and expenses should be consistent with project proposal. Expense details and any clarifying notes in the budget can help tell the story and scope of your project.
  • Applicants may request $10,000 - $25,000.
