Training Need Assessment For Green Public Procurement (GPP) |
The World Bank (www.worldbank.org) is the largest Multilateral Development Bank (MDB), which provided financing to the tune of US$ 105 Billion during 2022. In addition, the World Bank also contributes to generation of knowledge in the form of research, studies, reports etc. Public Procurement is one of the focus areas for the World Bank as countries across the world spend up to 20% of their GDP through public procurement, which directly impacts development in these countries.
Current quantum of annual public procurement is estimated as about US$ 600 Billion in India, which is likely to increase exponentially as India seeks to become high-income economy by 2047. Public Procurement thus can be used for greening the economy. Also, as per the recent policy announced, India now stands committed to reducing the emissions caused by activities for the nation’s economic growth by 45% by the year 2030 from 2005 levels.
With above background, the World Bank is planning to launch a training course in India on Green Public Procurement (GPP) in partnership with Indian training institutions. The main objective of this training is to improve the understanding, knowledge and skills about green public procurement in India for facilitating increased use of public procurement to achieve climate change goals and efficient utilization of natural resources.
