Introduction
An important step in developing a National Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) Certification Program is performing a job task analysis. A job tasks analysis involves systematically identifying and documenting the specific responsibilities associated with a particular job or role within an organization to inform certification examination development.
Steps in a job task analysis include convening subject matter experts to identify job duties; refining task and knowledge statements; creating and administering a survey to current employees to validate the role and function of the particular job; obtaining demographic and firmographic information to document the survey sample; obtaining importance and performance ratings for tasks and knowledge; and using the job task analysis survey results to build a valid and credible certification examination.
This survey intends to verify the accuracy and validity of the disease intervention tasks identified by a panel of public health experts. DIS and other disease intervention (DI) professionals are asked to rate each task based on what they ACTUALLY do in their job role. The accuracy of the feedback is critical in helping to ensure that the inaugural DIS certification examination is reflective of the current DIS role.
We estimate that the job task analysis survey will take approximately 45 minutes to complete. All responses will be kept confidential, and individual responses will not be released. Survey results will be reported in aggregate and used to inform DIS Certification and other national disease intervention workforce development initiatives.
