2025 Keweenaw Destination Development Fund Application
Program Overview
Visit Keweenaw is accepting applicants for its 2025 Destination Development Fund. The fund provides financial assistance to local governments and non-profit organizations in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties to implement efforts that create or improve outdoor recreation, cultural resources, and community amenities in the region which enhance the local visitor experience.
Eligible Projects: Eligible projects include, but are not limited to: -Development of new outdoor and cultural attractions or enhancements to existing outdoor and cultural attractions that improve the visitor experience -Wayfinding and interpretive signage -Placemaking initiatives that celebrate a locations unique history, culture, or environment. -Community beautification efforts -Enhancements that improve access to visitor attractions for individuals of all mobility levels -Enhancements that improve the sustainability of the Keweenaw's visitor economy
Ineligible Projects: -Events -Websites -Temporary exhibits -Projects that exclude public access

Program Details:
The deadline for application submission is March 31, 2025.
Maximum award size: $25,000
Cost-Share Requirements: Applicants must include cost-share match of no less than 50% for the project's total cost. Cost-share can come in the form of cash and/or in-kind match. Projects which include higher rates of cost-share (more than 50%) or cost-share in the form of cash match will be given preference.
Awards are made in the form of cost reimbursement for eligible project expenses. Funds cannot be used to reimburse expenses incurred before the award contract is executed.
Project Completion Deadline: Projects that can be completed before September 30, 2025 will be given preference.

Why Does This Program Exist? Visit Keweenaw's mission is to foster Houghton & Keweenaw Counties' visitor economy and maximize the benefits of tourism to our local communities. These funds are intended to support investments to attract visitors while also improving amenities that are enjoyed by residents living in the Keweenaw. Research shows that great communities to visit are also great places to live in, and these investments have the potential to accomplish both goals.
