Background
In September 2025 City of York Council approved an investment of £750,000 (the Park Investment Fund or PIF) to revitalise parks, play areas, and public green spaces across the city. Council officers will use other sources of funding to add to this investment taking the overall budget to around £925,000. The PIF programme prioritises green spaces located within areas of higher deprivation and where there is ageing play equipment and infrastructure and will support the council’s ambition to increase the number of Green Flag parks in York. The Councils’ aim is to encourage more people to spend time outdoors, improve accessibility, social inclusion and play.
Following a detailed assessment using a weighted scoring system, the Council approved 19 schemes for immediate investment. To ensure the improvements meet the Councils’ aims we are engaging with children and communities to gain insight into how the projects should progress. As part of this, we would like your views of what makes a great play area that is accessible and inclusive. Please let us know your views by filling out this survey.
