CPOC and CPOC Foundation are excited to announce the Call for Presentations for our upcoming statewide conference!

We invite practitioners, researchers, and academics to submit proposals for presentations that explore innovative, evidence-based, and data-driven approaches to advancing the probation profession.

Proposals should focus on strategies that enhance outcomes for individuals involved in the justice system and strengthen the role of probation in community safety. This conference will focus on the work probation does every day. Protecting communities while creating real pathways for people to change.

This conference is about elevating the profession beyond the day-to-day tasks and recognizing the broader impact probation has on individuals, communities, and public safety.

Adult Probation Continuum: Programs that help enhance probation work. Proven, promising, and innovative programs, job training, victim services, and educational pathways, including reentry programs and services. This includes evidence-based, research-informed, and/or data-driven approaches, as well as promising practices aimed at improving supervision strategies and enforcement mechanisms to support successful outcomes.

Juvenile Justice Continuum: Proven or promising strategies across the juvenile justice continuum, can include topics in prevention, intervention, diversion, wardship, detention or reentry. Topics may cover education, community supervision, partnerships, institutional management, SB 823 implementation, vocational programming, staffing, and youth development. Preference for evidence-based, research-informed, and/or data-driven approaches.

Court services, Pretrial, Prop 36 Implementation, CalAIM Justice-Involved Initiative: Innovative strategies or programs in court services, pretrial programs, Prop 36 implementation and strategies around CalAIM justice-involved initiative. Topics may include effective pretrial programs, alternatives to detention, best practices in court services, and approaches to implementing Prop 36. Additionally, CalAIM justice-involved initiatives and their impact on individuals and strategies for improving outcomes through cross-system collaboration

Staff development, Recruitment and Retention: Strategies and/or practices to strengthen probation department staffing through effective recruitment, retention, and professional development. Topics may include innovative training, leadership development, employee wellness, and evidence-based approaches to workforce stability.

Technology/AI: The role of technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and data analytics in enhancing probation practices. Topics may include AI-driven tools, data-informed decision-making, case management innovations, electronic monitoring, and emerging technologies that improve efficiency and outcomes. Submissions may also explore the ethical considerations and research-based evidence surrounding the use of these tools, highlighting emerging practices that demonstrate measurable impact on probation outcomes.

Foster Care: Efforts to enhance services, treatment, and youth/family engagement. Effective strategies to improve outcomes for youth in foster care involved in the justice system as well as nonminor dependents with a focus on any of the following topics: child and family teaming, wraparound, Family First Prevention Services Part I implementation, resource family recruitment and retention efforts, partnerships with foster family agencies and/or short term residential treatment program (STRTP) providers.
