INTRODUCTION
The Center for Financial Empowerment is a non-profit charitable organization that serves high school youth and young adults in underserved communities. We partner with schools and community organizations in Southern California and Southern Nevada to offer financial education programs, giving young people the power to make better financial choices and achieve an improved quality of life.

Founded in 2005 by SCE Federal Credit Union, the Center carries out the Credit Union's vision to provide much-needed financial education to the next generation of members. This partnership offers a unique, big-picture solution for the area's disadvantaged and immigrant youth: they can learn relevant, actionable economic skills, and receive access to affordable deposit accounts, loans and tools to put their learned skills into action.
ROLE OF A BOARD MEMBER
As a nonprofit organization, the Center relies on its Board of Directors to establish strategic direction, establish policy, and steward assets, all in support of the Center’s mission, purpose, goals, and programs. A Board Director must be committed to fulfilling these obligations with their time (work), talent (wisdom), treasure (wealth), and relationships.
TIME COMMITMENT
The Center's Board members typically spend between 1-3 hours per month on CFE work.
