Champions for Change 2025-2026 Application

About Champions for Change and the Application Process

Thank you for interest in Champions for Change! Submit your application before Monday, December 8th at 9:00am. You can view a PDF version of the full application here.

In Champions for Change (CFC), you’ll grow as a values-driven leader committed to racial justice. You’ll uncover both the visible and hidden ways race has shaped your lived experience. You’ll practice dialogue across lines of identity. And you’ll join with others to spark collective change toward racial co-liberation. To learn more about NEW, our work, and our mission and values, click here.

Champions for Change is a six-month intensive leadership development program. The cohort meets once or twice a month for full-day (7-hour) sessions, held primarily in Ann Arbor and Detroit, with occasional virtual gatherings on Zoom. Each session is rooted in building authentic relationships, sharing stories, practicing deep listening, and developing practical skills. We also create space for joy, play, and shared meals, because transformation happens in community.

Further details on Champions for Change, including the schedule, can be found here.

Application Process
Applications will be submitted online via a link shared on this page. After reviewing each submission, our application team (composed of NEW staff, CFC facilitators, and CFC alum) will invite prospective Champions to a 20-minute virtual conversation.

Relationships are at the heart of Champions for Change, and we know that you are more than the words on a page. This conversation is your opportunity to connect with us, share your story, and reflect on what racial co-liberation means to you.

Application Criteria
The most important part of your application is your personal commitment to advancing racial justice in Southeast Michigan. To participate, you must also:
  • Live or work in Southeast Michigan (open to all, regardless of citizenship)
  • Be available to attend program sessions and complete pre-work
  • Demonstrate openness to learning, readiness to engage, and the courage to be vulnerable
  • Be prepared to grow both individually and collectively
  • Be committed to deepening relationships within our community
