Application Form - MECC for Children and Young People's Vaccination

What is MECC for Child Flu Vaccines?

MECC for Child Flu Vaccines aims to follow on the success of the Making Every Contact Count (MECC) Approach – an evidence-based behavioural change approach that uses everyday conversations to encourage healthy behaviour choices – to encourage the uptake of flu vaccinations and immunisations among children and young people (CYP).

The Royal Society for Public Health has developed a dedicated MECC for Child Flu Vaccines training to help people who interact with CYP and their parents build their skills and confidence to have conversations and answer questions about flu vaccinations.

Why are we offering MECC for Child Flu Vaccines?

The Royal Society of Public Health knows that vaccinations play a vital role in keeping us healthy and are among the most effective public health interventions. However, in recent years, vaccine misinformation has been the rise. Significant reductions in vaccine uptake due to misinformation can have devastating consequences for the public’s health and wellbeing.

Through this training, we seek to create an open dialogue about flu vaccinations for CYP in the community, address common misconceptions, and alleviate apprehension that parents, caregivers, and individuals may have about receiving a flu vaccination. Incorporating these conversations into everyday interactions – especially as we approach flu season – plays a key part in the MECC approach and can help empower people to make the best decisions for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Who is MECC for Flu Vaccines aimed at?

MECC for Child Flu Vaccines is aimed at professionals who work with children, their parents or caregivers, or in the wider community who could have an opportunity to discuss flu vaccinations. This could include people working in schools, nurseries, children’s social care, libraries and community resources, health visitors, and more.

We are offering this training (valued at £175 per person) for free as part of a limited pilot programme

This training is funded by grant from Astra Zeneca
