The Castro CBD (Community Benefit District) is now considering adding safety cameras on private property at key intersections on Market Street, Church Street and Castro Street. These cameras would focus on the public realm to provide video for evidentiary purposes only, with stringent privacy controls that prevent direct viewing by the public or authorities.

Consideration of a camera program comes from concerned residents and a need to address public safety issues in our district. Video evidence can serve as an unbiased witness to assist both victims of crimes (or vehicle accidents) as well as a defense for those unjustly charged with a crime.

This survey lets you provide input about the proposal to have safety cameras installed at various locations in the Castro CBD area by a third-party vendor. Details about this proposal can be found HERE.

The Castro CBD covers the merchant area from Castro Street to Octavia Street. You can find a map of the covered area HERE.
