The City of Ridgefield is the fastest growing city in Washington State with an annual growth rate of 6.81%. Over the next ten years, its population is projected to grow from approximately 17,600 to over 26,000 residents.

Since 2001, the Port of Ridgefield and the City of Ridgefield have been working to create a coordinated vision for the Waterfront and the Downtown area. Outreach has included:
  • 2001 - the Port Commission adopted a comprehensive plan the formalized a vision for waterfront redevelopment
  • 2010-11 - the Downtown/Waterfront Integration Project Action Plan was created to promote the social, environmental and economic well-being of Ridgefield through the revitalization of downtown and redevelopment of the waterfront
  • 2016 - the Port and the City of Ridgefield collaborated on the Downtown/Waterfront Subarea Plan
  • 2022 - More than 1,500 Ridgefield community members participated in a survey about future uses at the Waterfront
  • 2023 - Waterfront Business Plan was created and adopted by the Port Commission
