CONSULTATION SURVEY
Introduction
The Council of the College has approved in principle a change to its regular licence bylaw. The proposed bylaw change will allow internationally-trained physicians who have completed training:
- in a program that has been reviewed by the Federation of Medical Regulatory Authorities of Canada (FMRAC) and FMRAC has concluded that the training program is substantially equivalent to a Canadian training program; or
- in a program that has been reviewed by another medical regulatory body in Canada and that body has concluded that the training program is substantially equivalent to a Canadian training program;
In order to be eligible for licensure, the applicant must:
- satisfy the Council that the training program is substantially equivalent to a Canadian training program; and
- have certification in their discipline of training by the appropriate authority in their country of training.
If the bylaw amendment is adopted, a physician who meets these requirements will be granted a regular licence, which means that the physician will not be subject to any additional requirements nor will they be required to practise under supervision.
