Introduction
The Shire of Exmouth is home to some of Australia’s most beautiful environmental wonders, that are highly valued by the local and wider community. The Shire’s population is projected to grow by 12% over the next 10 years. This permanent population growth, along with the seasonal tourist arrivals into the town, highlights the need to plan properly for growth.
Planning needs to be undertaken strategically to support the population, whilst protecting the environmental assets that draw people to this region. The Local Planning Strategy and Local Planning Scheme provide a framework for guiding growth and development. Together, they consider factors such as population, housing, culture and heritage, economy and employment, environment and essential infrastructure.
To help create these planning documents, the Shire is seeking input from the community and stakeholders to better understand their values and aspirations for the future, to identify opportunities and constraints.
