Markham School Street Pilot - Black Walnut Elementary School - Post-Pilot Survey - Students

The City of Markham is working with the York Region District School Board to try a new project called School Streets at Black Walnut Public School this spring.

School Street projects help keep students safe by limiting car traffic on some streets near the school during drop‑off and pick‑up times. This can make it easier and safer for students to walk, bike, scoot, or roll to school.

The project involves traffic restrictions along John Allen Cameron Street in front of the school from May 19 to June 12, including:
  1. Closure of one lane of car traffic on John Allen Cameron Street, limiting traffic to one-way from May 19 to 29 on school days during drop-off and pick-up times; and,
  2. Full road closure on John Allen Cameron Street from June 1 to 12 on school days during drop-off and pick-up times. – Happening Now
This survey asks questions about how you travelled to and from school and how safe it feels around the school during this project. Your answers will help us learn how students get to school and how it feels to travel around the school as a result of this project.

You may have filled out a similar survey before – this survey is different, and asks questions about your experiences during the road closure project.

This survey is for students in Grades 4–8. If you are not a student, please use this link to complete a survey for parents and other adults.

Taking part in this survey is voluntary. There are no right or wrong answers. Please answer each question based on your own experience. Your answers will not affect your grades or how your school sees you.

Your answers are private and will only be used to help us learn about the project. Your name will not be connected to your answers, and no one will know how you answered.

If you continue with this survey, it means you understand what the survey is about and agree to take part.
1.What is your postal code?
2.Which grade are you currently in at Black Walnut Public School?
This survey is about two parts of the pilot project, where different changes were made in front of the school:
  1. Part 1: Single lane closure (May 19-29). During this time, one lane on John Allen Cameron Street was closed, but cars could still pass through in one direction during drop-off and pick-up times.
  2. Part 2: Full road closure (June 1-12), during this time, John Allen Cameron Street was fully closed and no cars were allowed in front of the school during drop-off and pick-up times.

Please answer the questions thinking about each part separately.
