For its 19th year, Artpace San Antonio invites teams to participate in Chalk It Up 2022 and work collaboratively to complete original chalk murals representative of the theme: THE SAN ANTONIO RIVER.
What do you need to know?
Registration is free and open to any school or community group serving San Antonio-area residents. Local businesses, nonprofits, and community members are encouraged to participate as community groups. Each team receives one Chalk It Up Kit with (2) 24-count washable sidewalk chalk (or equivalent), and (2) 24-count soft pastels (or equivalent). Teams will be judged on creativity, execution, and adherence to theme: THE SAN ANTONIO RIVER.

There are two ways to participate: remotely Across SA OR in-person at Chalk It Up.
A TeamWorks Handbook with additional details will follow registration.

remote participation (September 1–30)
    • Team leaders are responsible for facilitating the completion and submission of their mural; Team leaders will select the mural site and workday(s) and time(s).
    • Judging is virtual! Team leaders will submit up to three images of their process and finished mural with a statement describing their artwork, overall dimensions, location, and number of team members.
    • Prize: one team participating Across San Antonio will receive honorable mention and one $125 gift card with an announcement on-stage at Chalk It Up in Downtown San Antonio happening Saturday, October 8, 10am–4pm.
CHALK IT UP DAY in-person participation (October 8)
    • Traditional TeamWorks competition happening in Downtown San Antonio along Houston Street, 8am–2pm. Space is limited; first come, first served.
    • Each TeamWorks group receives one 5 x 8-foot street “canvas”, and has a maximum of 10 members participating at one time.
    • Team Leaders will attend a mandatory orientation.
    • Prizes: one team from each category (elementary, middle, high school) will be selected as a finalist and receive one $125 gift card courtesy of H-E-B; one winning School Team will receive one $250 gift card; one community group will receive honorable mention and one $125 gift card.
