Pope Francis wants to hear from you!
As Catholics, we need to know how our communities are doing - where we are doing well and how we need to change.
We believe that the Spirit of God speaks through God's people and that includes you.
Ideally, your response will be from a group who have prayed and reflected about what to say. If you would like guidance in this, click here to find your diocesan website and look for the 'Synod' link.
Individual responses are also very welcome.
This response tool identifies ten themes with 2-3 simple questions about each. If you wish to respond to the more full list of Synod questions click here.
If you have already summarised your response, submission should only take 5-10 minutes. Most people will only wish to respond to one or two themes but feel free to respond to as many as you like.
Ask yourself - 'what is the Spirit saying to the Church today? '
If you are aged under 16, please have a parent or guardian complete the submission on your behalf. It is intended that submissions are anonymous. This response tool will remain open until Sunday 12 December 2021.
Thanks for taking part.
'Toward a Synodal Church: communion, participation and mission,' is the title of the international Synod running for two years (2021-23) in the Catholic Church. 'Synodal' means to 'journey together' so a synod is a particular effort to listen to each other on the journey. Synodality enables the entire People of God to walk forward together, listening to the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, to participate in the mission of the Church in the communion that Christ establishes between us. This “walking together” is the most effective way of putting into practice the nature of the Church as the pilgrim and missionary People of God.
This Synod is being undertaken worldwide and will culminate in a gathering of bishops in Rome in 2023.
This response tool is a key method of listening to our people at the local level in Aotearoa NZ. Responses are initially being collected in diocesan regions (i.e. Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Palmerston North, Hamilton & Auckland) so responses here will be directed to your self-selected diocese.
