Public Opinion Survey Purpose

Abington Township is undertaking a Pool Feasibility Study for Crestmont and Penbryn Pools. The study will provide a plan to modernize Township pool facilities in response to the findings of the 2018 pool study which found that the facilities are past their expected life span and cannot be renovated. The study kicked off in March 2026 and is expected to be completed in November 2026. It will engage residents on the future of the pool systems while providing needed planning, site design and financial analysis. The study will also align with the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCNR) Pool Feasibility Scope of Work to enable the Township to apply for DCNR grants for any construction efforts. Goals for the study include:
  • Create inclusive, accessible, and welcoming pool and park environments for residents of all ages and abilities.
  • Modernize aquatic facilities to improve safety, comfort, and user experience.
  • Expand opportunities for health, wellness, recreation, and community connection.
  • Integrate pool improvements with broader park upgrades—paths, shade, seating, landscaping, and neighborhood access.
  • Promote environmental sustainability through efficient systems and resilient site design.
  • Ensure financially responsible and sustainable long‑term operations.
  • Engage the community throughout the process to guide decision‑making.
This opinion survey is a vital part of the planning process and will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. The survey asks residents to consider existing strengths and future opportunities for the Township’s pool needs and provide feedback on several conceptual designs for the pools and the parks they occupy.
