Toppenish Nurses:

Please take 5 minutes to complete the following survey to help us in bargaining. At our last session, management said that their current break relief system is working with few complaints and that they do not believe that they do not think that the current break relief approach needs to be changed, except perhaps in the ER We suspect that this is not the case and want to better understand how widespread is the issue of nurses not getting their breaks and nurses having to take too many patient to cover breaks by other nurses. Please answer the following questions honestly so we can show management they need to engage in this conversation meaningfully. Please indicate the unit and shift on which you work. We don’t need your names and no specific member information is shared with management.

3.In a typical work week, how often do you take all rest and meal breaks?
4.When you do get your breaks, how often do you receive a break from anyone that is not a “buddy” coworker on the unit? This could be the manager, house supervisor or any other nurse who does not have their own team of patients assigned?
5.When you relieve another nurse using the "Break Buddy" system how often are you caring for a number of patients above your expected ratio based on your unit staffing plan?
6.How often do you need to stay late to finish your work if you have taken all of your breaks?
7.In bargaining, Management indicated that they did not see an overall issue with breaks and appropriate break coverage and that we do not need break nurses or additional break relief support. Do you agree with this statement?
8.Has management ever followed up with you regarding a missed break or meal period?
