AMaGA Western Australia is the State Branch providing services, professional development and advocacy to WA members and the wider cultural and creative collecting sector. We advocate across all levels of government to communicate the value of museums and galleries, raise professional standards, inform policy and promote ethical practice. WHO WE NEED
We are seeking people who are passionate about strengthening Western Australia’s cultural, museum, gallery and collections sector. The Committee plays a vital role in guiding AMaGA WA’s strategic direction, supporting our advocacy, and ensuring we remain a strong, representative voice for museums, galleries, and collecting organisations across the state. We are particularly interested in broadening the range of expertise on the Committee to include skills from outside the arts and heritage professions.

The Committee plays a vital role in guiding AMaGA WA’s strategic direction, supporting our advocacy, and ensuring we remain a strong, representative voice for museums, galleries, and collecting organisations across the state. WHAT'S INVOLVED
- Committee members are elected for an initial term of 2 years.
- The Committee meets monthly for approximately 1.5 hours per meeting.
- We strongly encourage regionally based nominees and most meetings are held virtually or hybrid.
- The annual time commitment is approximately 20-30 hours including pre-meeting reading, occasional post-meeting actions, opportunities to attend sector events or represent AMaGA WA at sector meetings, between meeting emails, and ad-hoc support for staff.
- Members are expected to contribute to subcommittees, working groups, or specific projects, i.e., Communications, Professional Development, Events, Volunteering, Advocacy, Membership
- This is a voluntary role, but it provides significant opportunities for professional growth, sector insight, and making a tangible impact.
- The AMaGA WA offices are in Applecross with space is available for Committee members to hot-desk if required (prioritising regional members).

- A commitment to the values and mission of AMaGA WA.
- Time and capacity to participate actively in meetings and activities.
- Skills and perspectives that strengthen our governance and advocacy — this could include finance, legal, fundraising, communications, digital transformation, governance, regional engagement, cultural knowledge, or other areas of expertise.
- A collaborative approach to teamwork and decision-making.
- A sense of humour.
- Empathy and understanding for the personal nature of cultural collections and the individual connections to community stories, people, and events.
IMPORTANT DATES
- Nominations close on 12 October 2025 at 5pm (AWST).
- If required, voting will be open to all current WA financial members 27 October- 21 November 2025.
- New Committee members will be announced at the AMaGA Western Australia Annual Meeting on 27 November 2025.
- Nominees will be advised of the outcome ahead of the announcement.
