AACN is seeking:
- Novice progressive care nurses to pilot-test questions for an adult entry-level progressive care nursing knowledge assessment
- Novice critical care nurses to pilot-test questions for an adult entry-level critical care nursing knowledge assessment
Workload and Timeline
Available mid-March to mid-April 2026 - We will provide exact dates after selection.
- Anticipate taking an assessment for ICU or PCU based on your background and experience
- 160-question test for ICU
- 110-question test for PCU
- Plan for 2-3 hours to complete the exam
- Must be completed in one sitting, as the test cannot be paused
- Please identify any items for which you have questions or concerns
Volunteer Qualifications
- Must be able to sign a nondisclosure agreement (NDA) and maintain confidentiality of the test items
- Volunteers may not discuss this work, create screen captures, or save the work in any format
PCU Exam:
- Nurses with less than 2 years of acute or progressive care experience (including telemetry, step-down, long-term acute) who:
- have completed ECCO (ideally, in the last 2 years)
- have not taken ECCO
ICU Exam:
- Nurses with less than 2 years of critical care experience in any critical care environment, who:
- have completed ECCO (ideally, in the last 2 years)
- have not taken ECCO
Technical Capabilities:
- Access to a computer (Windows or Mac) with reliable internet access
- Prefer wired internet access for best functionality
- Ability to use elan electronic platform for taking the exam questions
- Able to provide feedback via electronic platform (instructions provided)
