ACE National Survey on Artificial Intelligence and Arthritis Care

Artificial intelligence – often called AI – is becoming part of everyday life – in the apps we use, the websites we visit, and even in how healthcare is delivered. It is a type of technology that can analyze information, make predictions, and even carry on conversations. In arthritis care, AI might be used to help doctors make diagnoses, suggest treatment options, predict symptom changes, or answer health questions through virtual assistants or chatbots (like ChatGPT). There are different types of AI. Generative AI is used to create content or give information – for example, answering your questions about arthritis in plain language. Predictive AI looks at your health information to forecast what might happen next – like warning you about a possible flare or suggesting which medication might work best.

To help Arthritis Consumer Experts (ACE) better understand what people living with arthritis and their caregivers think about AI, we are conducting a National Survey on Artificial Intelligence and Arthritis Care: how familiar you are with it, how comfortable you feel using it, and what kinds of tools or information might help you. Your answers will help ACE make sure that patient voices are included as AI becomes a bigger part of arthritis care in Canada.

What am I being asked to share?

The Survey asks about your experience with artificial intelligence while receiving arthritis care.

How will the information I provide be used?

The Survey will collect important input from people living with different types of arthritis. We will observe trends from the information that is shared with us so we can better understand the experiences, attitudes, expectations, and concerns people living with arthritis have regarding AI use in arthritis care.

The Survey asks questions regarding sociodemographic information as research has shown that gender, ethnicity, education, income, and geographic location determine access to health care services and in many cases, health outcomes.

Your participation is deeply appreciated and contributes to ACE’s advocacy work. Arthritis Consumer Experts intends to share the Survey results with researchers, physicians, policy decision-makers and media to advance their understanding of the lived experience of people with arthritis.

How will my privacy be protected?

Arthritis Consumer Experts will keep Survey responses in a secure database and in accordance with Canadian research ethics guidelines. All responses are pooled and will remain anonymous.
