The purpose of this survey is to understand how best to support recreation professionals in designing or retrofitting existing facilities, scheduling programs and facility use and creating policies that support women, girls and gender diverse people. We understand “gender diverse” to include trans, gender non-conforming, non-binary and two-spirit persons. This survey is part of a broader Environmental Scan being conducted by consultants working with the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association, with funding support from Sport Canada.

We understand that COVID-19 has taken a significant toll on the recreation sector in many ways. If there is a silver lining to this pandemic, it is that it has exposed many inequities in our social systems and has given us an opportunity to reflect on how we might better provide services to all members of our communities.
Who should complete the survey? Staff and volunteers working in recreational facilities such as those operated by municipalities, First Nations, Boys and Girls Clubs, YM and YWCA’s and private owners at the local/municipal/community/First Nations levels. People in different roles within the same organization are encouraged to complete the survey independently from one another. Please feel free to forward the survey to anyone else in your organization to complete.
