The UK Foundation Programme Office (UKFPO) introduced preference informed allocation (PIA) in 2024 following a stakeholder engagement exercise in which around two thirds of medical student respondents supported a change of system. Prior to this, a merit-based system was used where applicants' performance at medical school was combined with the results of a situational-judgment test (SJT) to provide applicants with a ranking.

Please complete this short survey to let us know what you think about the Foundation programme allocation system. We will use your anonymous responses to inform our response to the forthcoming UKFPO review and encourage them to introduce a system that best meets the wants and needs of students.

Further information about the current system is here on the BMA website and here on the UKFPO website.
