Informed Consent

Title of the Study:

Healing the Hidden Wounds: Implementing Trauma-Informed Leadership in Correctional Settings

Purpose of the Study:

You are invited to participate in a research study aimed at exploring the impact of CF on uniformed correctional staff across the United Staters. The study seeks to understand the prevalence and severity of CF symptoms, their correlation with mental health outcomes, and the influence on job satisfaction, performance, and retention. Additionally, the study examines the state of trauma-informed leadership within the field of corrections.

Procedures:

If you agree to participate, you will be asked to complete an online survey created and disbursed through Survey Monkey. The survey will take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete and will include questions about your demographic information, work conditions, organizational factors, work morale, trauma exposure, physical health, and home life.

This study will use the CF Assessment CFA (Desert Waters Correctional Outreach, 2024)for which written permission was granted by the creator of the assessment, Dr. Caterina Spinaris with Desert Waters Correctional Outreach (DWCO).

Voluntary Participation:

Your participation in this study is entirely voluntary. You may choose not to participate or to withdraw at any time without penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled. If you decide to withdraw, any data you have provided will be removed from the study and will not be used.

Risks and Benefits:

Risks

Emotional Distress: Participants might experience emotional distress while answering questions related to trauma and job stress.

Confidentiality: Although data is collected anonymously, there is always a minimal risk of confidentiality breaches.

Benefits

Contributions to Research: The findings of this study will contribute valuable insights into the well-being of correctional officers, which can inform policy and practice improvements.

Access to Mental Health Resources: Participants will be provided with information about available mental health resources.

Confidentiality:

Your responses to this survey are completely confidential and anonymous. The survey platform does not capture any identifying information about you. It is impossible for us to identify you as the author of your answers or report anything about you or your specific answers to anyone at your agency.

Compensation:

There is no compensation for participating in this study.
