Talking Circle 2: Indian Road Renaming

Over the past few months, City staff have begun engaging with community members on the process to rename Indian Road. The first Indigenous Talking Circle took place on Wednesday, Nov. 12. Thirteen people attended, and it was a productive conversation on the approach and how to move forward.

A second Talking Circle will take place on Wednesday, January 28th from 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. The location will be shared to attendees upon registration. You do not need to have attended the first session to join. Feedback from the first Circle indicated a preference to meet in person.

  • We will be building off the first conversation to finalize the renaming approach and criteria for the new name. Pending participant feedback and review of engagement to date, we can begin to create a shortlist of names.
  • The evening will begin with a shared meal before opening up the discussion.
  • This circle is open to anyone who identifies as Indigenous and lives in the Kingston/Katarokwi region.
  • This is a closed session, only open to those who register ahead of time.
  • Select City staff will also be in attendance.
  • An honorarium will be provided to those who register and attend the circle.
