The Lancaster River Hills Conservation Area (LRHCA) is a remarkable landscape of sprawling woodlands, stream valleys, and scenic overlooks of the Susquehanna River. Within this area, the Conservancy stewards more than 1,800 acres of land, nine stream corridors, and portions of the Conestoga Hiking Trail. The LRHCA is made up of the Shenks Ferry Wildflower Preserve, Fox Hollow Nature Preserve, Pequea Nature Preserve, Clark Nature Preserve, Tucquan Glen & Pyfer Nature Preserves, Kellys Run Nature Preserve, and Holtwood Nature Preserve. The Conservancy is preparing a master plan for the LRHCA. This visioning effort—led by Lancaster Conservancy in partnership with regional organizations and two host municipalities—will guide Conservancy stewardship and capital investments across the LRHCA for the next 10–20 years. Your input is vital to shaping the future of this treasured conservation area.
The goals for the planning process include:
- Gather a collaborative of partners with similar interests and responsibility with an opportunity for cross-agency alignment.
- Investigate balance of public use and stewardship of natural resources within the goals of the Conservancy.
- Provide feedback on project objectives and materials.
- Gather insight, data and informational resources to better inform priorities and recommendations.
In the following survey, please share how you currently use & experience one or all of the preserves you visit and let us know your thoughts and opinions. The survey should take 10 to 15 minutes. Your input is a valuable component of the master plan process.
The survey will be available through Tuesday September 1, 2026. Surveys are not identified by name, and your responses will be anonymous. All responses will be compiled and represented in the master plan report.
This survey is being conducted by the Lancaster Conservancy and Simone Collins Landscape Architecture. For more information, please contact Rob Gladfelter, RLA at
