About the community grants program
Southern Cross Gold's community grants program supports initiatives that improve quality of life, heritage, recreation, environment and culture in Clonbinane, Kilmore, Broadford, Wallan and Wandong.
Applications open twice a year. Six $600 grants go to projects with a clear, positive, sustainable community outcome. This round closes 6 October 2026. Applications are assessed by committee, and all applicants are contacted with the outcome.
How to apply
Applicants must:
- Be based in Clonbinane, Kilmore, Broadford, Wallan or Wandong
- Outline the project's aims and community benefit
- Show forward planning and ongoing group support
- Demonstrate their own contribution (funds, services or in-kind)
- Outline budget and timeline (projects must finish within six months; extensions by agreement)
- Outline how SXG will be acknowledged

Conditions of application
- Unspent funds must be returned unless approved otherwise
- A grant offer implies no ongoing funding commitment
- Application progress won't be shared before announcements
- Must be signed by an office bearer of the group
- SXG may view the project at any time
- All permits, approvals and public liability insurance must be in place
- Funds must be used only as approved in the application
- Funds cannot be used for commercial gain
On completion
Within 60 days, provide a short report (photos welcome) with financial records of spend, plus any publicity or media coverage. We can help with acknowledgement, e.g. press releases and logo use.
What we fund
Education (schools, kinder, TAFE), health (mental health, aged care), environmental (nature groups), recreation (sport, leisure), social (arts, music, theatre, crafts), community services (emergency services, outreach).
What we don't fund
Individuals; political organisations or campaigns; late applications; commercial-benefit projects; groups with unacquitted previous grants; retrospective activities already held.
