Please join Cancer Research UK (CRUK) and the Global Alliance for Tobacco Control (GATC), in collaboration with the WHO FCTC Secretariat, WHO Tobacco Free Initiative, the NCD Alliance and government partners as we mark the 20th anniversary of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC).
This side event will bring together civil society, international organizations, and governments to celebrate progress, reflect on lessons learned, and highlight how tobacco control can strengthen the wider NCD response. Taking place during the UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs and Mental Health week, and just weeks before COP11, the event will underscore the urgency of renewed commitment to accelerate global action.
More specifically, the event will aim to:
· Celebrate the 20th anniversary of the WHO FCTC, with a focus on progress, challenges, and the role of multilateralism.
· Highlight how tobacco control lessons can inform and strengthen broader NCD prevention strategies.
· Share government perspectives and country experiences in advancing tobacco control.
· Underscore the political importance of COP11 in the global tobacco control agenda.
