Cork City Council – New Central Library Project

What is this questionnaire about?

Cork City Council has acquired the historic Counting House building complex on South Main Street, as part of the wider regeneration of the Grand Parade Quarter, to become the new home of Cork City Library, the main library of the Cork City Council library network and a new landmark cultural facility in the heart of Cork City centre. The new library will be more than three times the size of the current City Library on Grand Parade, and Cork City Council is seeking your views to help shape the design and services of this landmark development.

The purpose of this questionnaire is to understand your current experience of library services, identify any barriers that inhibit people from using the library, hear which services you feel are missing or could be improved, and gather your ambitions for what the new library could offer Cork.

How is the design being managed?

External architectural and library design specialists have been engaged by Cork City Council to work alongside our City Library and Architect’s Department staff to design the new library to ensure it meets the needs to the city today and into the future. This survey forms part of the process informing that design.

This questionnaire seeks the views of both current library users and members of the public who do not currently use library services. Both perspectives are equally important to us.

Your feedback will help ensure that the design and services of the new library are relevant and valuable to the people of Cork City.

The survey is open for responses for four weeks and may be extended.

All responses to the survey are anonymous, and no personal data is requested from you during the completion of the survey.
