1. Welcome to the On-farm Financial Risk Management Project Survey 2020

The National Farmers’ Federation has kicked off a significant project which will identify insights and tools that will help farmers better manage risk.

The NFF is partnering with the NSW Government on a project aimed at improving the financial risk management options available to Australian farmers to assist them to manage drought, natural disasters and a range of other risks. The project is multi-commodity and national in focus.

Financial risk management products" refers to the following three categories of farm financial risk mitigation products: (i) farm production insurance, which protects against falls in production and includes, but is not limited to, named peril insurance, multi-peril crop insurance (MPCI), weather event insurance and yield index insurance, (ii) other types of general insurance, such as fire and general industrial insurance, personal injury / workers compensation, key man, public liability and professional indemnity insurance and (iii) price risk management products, which include, but are not limited to, listed and unlisted ("over-the-counter") derivatives, such as futures contracts (exchange-traded), put / call option contracts (exchange-traded), forward contracts (privately negotiated or negotiated by a third party), commodity swaps, interest rate swaps and FX swaps.
