FY26 Rising Star Award

This Rising Star Award honors exceptional School Business Officials (SBOs) in their first ten years of service, recognizing both current achievements and ongoing contributions. Nominees will be judged based on their impact on the profession, no matter the size of their district or their job title. Nominees must be: a Basic or Package MASBO member for at least 12 consecutive months before nomination; hold an Initial or Professional SBA license from the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; have fewer than ten years of experience in the lead SBA role as well as current employment in the school business profession and have attended one Annual Institute or more. Board members must wait at least one year after their term ends to be considered, and Selection Committee Members are not eligible. Nominees are evaluated on how the nominee has contributed to their district, MASBO, and/or ASBO International, any unique duties the nominee executes that help raise awareness of the school business profession, the greatest challenge the nominee’s district has faced and how the nominee helped overcome it. Nominations can be made by MASBO members, the nominee's Superintendent, or others who can confirm the nominee's contributions. Self-nominations are also invited. The Rising Star Award winner will receive registration and travel expenses to attend ASBO International’s Annual Conference & Expo in the winning calendar year or the following calendar year if the recipient is unable to attend in the current calendar year, a tangible memento, a presentation at a meeting of the recipient’s School Committee, a press release, and recognition in the MASBO Notebook. The award is conferred at a mutually agreeable time, preferably at the Annual Institute and winners may each bring one guest at no charge.
